[Φιλον]|αύτα          Λέων|ος.καὶ λόγον αὐξήσαντα καὶ ἐν λιγυαχέσι Μούσαιςκεκριμένον κρύπτει Σώπολιν ἅδε κόνις,Θυρρείου ναετῆρα, μεγαυχήτοιο Λέοντοςκοῦρον, ἀμωμήτου σωφροσύνης κανόνα·ὃν πᾶς μὲν φιλέεσκεν, ὑπερφιάλων δὲ πρὸς ἐχθρῶν[ὤ]λετο φοινίξας ἀπροτίοπτον Ἄρη·[ἀ]λλ’ εἰ καὶ νέος ἦλθεν ὑπὸ ζόφον, οὐ μὲν ἀσάμως[τὰν] ἀρετὰν λε̣ί̣π̣ει ζῶσαν ὑπ’ ἀελίωι.
des Philonautas;  des Leon.Den, der das Wort vermehrt und in den helltönenden Musensich gemessen hat, Sopolis, birgt diese Erde,Bewohner von Thyrrheion, des ruhmvollen LeonSohn, Muster an untadeliger Vernunft.Den ein jeder geliebt hat, der ist, gegen frevlerische Feindeeinen unsichtbaren Kampf (= Hinterhalt) rot (von Blut) färbend, gefallen.Doch wenn er auch als Jüngling unter das Dunkel kam, hat er doch nicht ruhmlosunter der Sonne eine weiterlebende Leistung hinterlassen.
